If this move is successful, it prevents the target from fleeing (if wild) or switching out (if a trainer battle). This effect ends if the user faints or switches out, even via Baton Pass, or if the affected target faints. The trapped target can still be switched out/made to flee if struck by a phazing move such as Roar or Dragon Tail , and can themselves flee if they are holding a Smoke Ball or have the Run_Away Ability (wild battle only), and switch out if they are holding a Shed Shell, Eject Button, or use the moves U-Turn, Volt Switch or Baton Pass (note that the trapped effect is not transferred by Baton Pass anymore).

In a triple battle, this move may target anyone facing or adjacent to the user.
